Catalog description

This course will introduce the students to the current global environmental issue. The course includes an introduction to current issues and the international efforts to solve the situations. Then an explanation of the Climate Change situation, challenges, and opportunities. After this macro discussion, the course will look at specific situations: natural disasters; water resources, air quality, solid waste management, agricultural resources, and the u rban built environment. In each of these topics, the course will study the current situation and its viable solutions. Emphasis on the development of critical thinking skills through the analysis and evaluation of environmental situations relevant to the Caribbean region. Scientific reasoning will be addressed by using the scientific method to evaluate the success/failure of the solut ions that have been used to address each situation. The communication skills will be reinforced through a series of oral and written presentations regarding how global issues does are reflected at the local scale.
