Catalog description

Study of basic sensors and how to interface them with microcontrollers. Emphasis will focus on the different types of sensors available in the market and how -to calibrate them considering range and bandwidth. The course will provide engineering students with practical, hands-on experience in the application of electronic instrumentation methodology and tools for gathering and manipulating data. The students will learn about the problems that some of these sensor measurements present and the solution methods to deal with them. It will be based on demonstrations, lectures, interpretation of schematics, laboratory practices, and case analysis with responsible use of technology to develop higher thinking processes such as scientific and quantitative reasoning, responsible, and critical thinking. One semester, 1.5 hours of classroom and 1.5 hours of laboratory per week.
