CONTEMPORARY APPROACHES TO EARLY INTERVENTION

Catalog description

The course focuses on the study and analysis of contemporary approaches in the early intervention field, including historical and evolutionary aspects. Philosophical, ethical, and legislative foundations will also be studied. Contemporary approaches and regulations for the provision of early intervention services in Puerto Rico will be analyzed, as they intend to reduce the future need for additional special education services. Students will become familiar with the Puerto Rico early intervention services delivery system called Avanzando Juntos, the Puerto Rico Department of Health Interagency Coordination Council (ICC), and the Puerto Rico Comprehensive System for Personnel Development (CSPD), established under IDEA. EDUC 537 MANAGEMENT AND EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR STUDENTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS 3 CREDITS Presentation, discussion and analysis of the different educational and management strategies and their applicability in the education of children with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit and other psychiatric disorders. Discussion of their definiti ons, possible causes and main characteristics, highlighting the importance and benefits of management interventions with behavior modification plans. Special emphasis will be given to the implementation of educational and management strategies according to the student's academic location. The rights and responsibilities of parents and special education students and the application of behavior modification techniques will be studied as they relate to the inclusion of children with special needs in the regular classroom.
