In this course the student attains a comprehensive understanding of the most common removable dental prosthetic treatment alternatives available to restore function and esthetics for the partially edentulous and the completely edentulous patient. Students integrate biological, morphological, anatomical, and behavioral knowledge that is essential for optimized care in patient -centered removable prosthodontic treatment. The students learn about the steps involved in the fabrication and delivery of removable prosthodontic treatment and about prosthesis design that contemplates biomechanical properties supported by scientific evidence. Students also compare conventional techniques for prosthesis fabrication with the new digital innovations. The course incorporates experiences for the students to treat removable prosthodontic patients in the SDM dental clinics. These clinical activities integrate the theory taught in the course with clinical practice in real patients, gaining robust appreciation for the steps required in the treatment and fabrication of prostheses, and gaining competency in effective two -way communication with laboratory technicians through direct contact and lab prescriptions.
