This course studies and analyzes the meaning production processes of different media. The various aspects produced by the media will be addressed, from a semiotic perspective, to address the contemporary visual world. Through the careful study of media products, the student will identify and analyze the fabrication of meanings produced by media discourse. Likewise, one of the latest theoretical and interdisciplinary proposals in art will be considered: performance. The course culminates with a comparative analysis of cultural products expressed by media and performance. . CUST 904 CULTURE AND PERFORMANCE IN CARIBBEAN LITERATURE AND FILM: A STUDY OF TRANSFORMATION IN IDENTITY AND GENDER 3 CREDITS This course examines the essence of carnival, masks and performance in public and private spaces represented by Caribbean authors and filmmakers. The development of the character and the multiplicity of identities are explored through performance, while th e production of meaning in the different cultural masquerade proposals is reinterpreted. It analyzes how the authors and filmmakers selected in this course have contributed with their vision of the transformational social energy of carnival rituals, perfor mance and cinema, especially in terms of gender and identity. In addition, theoretical readings are included that will contribute to the conceptual framework of the course
