Catalog description
The Instrumental Chemistry course studies the principles that a chemist needs to know to apply technological competence when efficiently using modern analytical instruments and equipment in a laboratory. The study of the theoretical aspects of modern instr uments used in chemical analysis is addressed. Includes: infrared, ultraviolet, visible and fluorescence spectroscopy methods. Also, the different types of chromatography, atomic absorption and polarimetry. Methods based on the use of X -rays, mass spectrom etry, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In the laboratory, different methods of separation, identification and quantification of chemical compounds will be used. Using a combination of problem-based learning approaches, case studies, experiments, among others, the student will develop skills in the areas of instrument selection, method development, and data interpretation. The course consists of 45 hours of lectures and 90 hours of laboratory.
