An overview and scope of biotechnology in industry and good manufacturing practices are presented. Biology, medicine and engineering are integrated in the biopharmaceutical industry and other products. Emphasis will be placed on the processes involved in the manufacture of products such as fermentation, extraction, and purification, including waste management. The basic components of current Good Manufacturi ng Practices (cGMP) will be introduced.
