Catalog description

This course covers the characteristics of fungi, their diversity and their importance in the environment and in biotechnology. This includes the role of fungal communities, succession, decomposition, nutrient cycling, pollution and fungal interactions. In addition, we discuss the importance of fungi in biotechnology such as the production of medicine, food, generic engineering and remediation. The course includes practical techniques for isolation, cultivation and identification of fungi, physiological tests, enzyme assays and fermentation.
