Catalog description

This is an introductory Virology course, with emphasis on the molecular mechanisms of infection, reproduction, survival and dispersion of viruses in the organism and in the population. The course emphasizes the molecular processes that must be completed by viruses to successfully reproduce within a host cell. The classification of viruses, the host defenses against viral infection, and the relationship of viral infections to cancer and other diseases are also studied. Some antiviral drugs, vaccines and viral infection control mechanisms are covered.
