Catalog description

This course provides the prospective teacher with the opportunity to learn the art and science of teaching. Candidates design lessons and units of study in curriculum based on the California Department of Education's frameworks and academic content standards. Intensive areas of study include planning, classroom management, teaching strategies, adaptations and assessment. Students in this class will evaluate methods of direct instruction, collaborative and cooperative approaches to instruction, and apply both basic skills and critical thinking skills in their teaching and assessment. Attention will be given to developing effective strategies for teaching students from diverse multicultural backgrounds and in addressing multiple intelligences. This course includes 25 hours in the candidate's subject area.
