Understanding Human Diversity for Social Justice

Catalog description

Assist students to develop tools for increased understanding of dimensions of human diversity and advocacy for social justice, which is one of the core values of social work. The dimensions of diversity are understood as the intersectionality of multiple factors. Students will begin to understand the forms and mechanisms of oppression and discrimination and recognize the extent to which a culture’s structures and values, including social, economic, political, and cultural exclusions, may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create privilege and power.
