This course provides an overview of the field of sociology, concentrating on its central approaches and techniques of analysis. The core of sociology is the study of group patterns and diversity, including the ways in which opportunities, expectations, and outcomes vary for people based on their social position and identity. This course will enable students to understand the formation and characteristics of different groups, the stratification [structure of inequality] of social groups, and the causes and consequences of inequality.
