Introduction to Disability Studies

Introduction to Disability Studies provides students with the opportunity to examine disability as a social, cultural, and political phenomenon. We will explore the impact of disability as it relates to the individual, families, social institutions, cultures and societies, and we will analyze the lives and perspectives of people with disabilities. We use an intersectional approach to diversity, always situating disability within its historical and social context and in relationship to other potential identities rooted in race, gender, class, and sexuality.
