Catalog description

Intended for biology majors who require only 4 semesters of chemistry. Lecture provides an introduction to the study of structure and function of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. Also gives an overview of the metabolic pathways these molecules participate in within living cells. The lab teaches physical skills and techniques of modern experimental biochemistry and encourages students to think critically about data. This course cannot be used as a prerequisite CHEM 301 , CHEM 420 or CHEM 421 . Students may not enroll in this course if already completed or enrolled in CHEM 222 .
