Laboratory IVA-Qualitative Organic Analysis

Catalog description

Involves the identification in the laboratory of unknown polyfunctional compounds by chemical and instrumental analytical techniques. Also involves an in-depth study of the theory of NMR and interpretation of both 1-D and 2-D NMR spectra. Use of the NMR instrument and spectral manipulation will be emphasized. This class will also build on the fundamental organic laboratory techniques learned in CHEM 223 by performing various types of organic chemical reactions. Two periods of lecture and three periods of lab/week.
