Catalog description

This course will provide an in-depth examination of the field of community corrections and related efforts to prevent crime that goes beyond and builds on the study of the basic concepts and practices of the corrections field. Topics will include the roles and responsibilities of probation and parole officers, community-based programs to re-integrate offenders and reduce the likelihood that they re-offend, and related issues such as restorative justice, evidence-based practices and programs such as drug treatment, vocational training and cognitive therapy. Special emphasis will be devoted to program evaluation and effectiveness.
