This course examines the major criminological theories that address the spatial distribution of crime as well its investigation and understanding. The use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has emerged in the last ten years as an important resource for this purpose, a process commonly known as crime mapping. This course explores the practical applications of crime mapping by the criminal justice system, the issues facing its use and the technology used to analyze and understand spatial patterns of crime.
