Catalog description

This course is a study of gametogenesis, fertilization, cell type determination, histogenesis, organogenesis and the formation of the early body plan. Both molecular and organismal aspects of these processes will be discussed, and both a textbook and primary literature will be used. Model systems covered include invertebrate (fly, worm), vertebrate (chicken, frog, fish, mouse) and plant. In addition to gaining knowledge and analytical skills, students will receive extensive instruction on how to give both scientific journal article and research presentations. Laboratory will include observation of and experimentation with invertebrate, vertebrate and plant systems.
