Catalog description

This course addresses diseases common in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world at the cellular, individual and societal levels. Students will investigate the general biology, ecology, epidemiology, immunology, life cycles, physiologic effects and treatment of these diseases. Emphasis will be placed upon the diversity of pathogenic agents and the history of tropical diseases, including their control and treatment. Students will investigate how increasing human travel and our changing environmental landscape may affect the spread of disease in the future. BIO 260 is recommended, but not required for success in the course.
