Catalog description

This course will examine the history and development of country music and its sub-genres in North America, from the early 20th century to the present day. It will begin by exploring the foundational themes rooted in early country music, then progress through the decades to analyze the genre's evolution within various cultural contexts. No prior musical training is required, but students will be guided in critical listening to identify genre-specific elements.
