Catalog description
The Electrocardiography Technician (EKG) course provides students with the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills needed to perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) in a clinical setting. The course covers topics such as cardiac anatomy and physiology, basic electrophysiology, proper lead placement, and interpretation of EKG tracings. Students will gain experience in operating EKG machines and performing 12-lead EKGs on simulated patients in a controlled laboratory environment. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to continue to EKG 0121, the internship course, to gain practical experience with live patients. Upon completing both courses, students will be eligible to sit for the National Certified ECG Technician (NCET) certification examination through the National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT).
