British Literature POST-1800

Catalog description

This course covers a variety of works in prose, poetry and drama, and literary movements in British literature, with an emphasis on the historical, cultural and social context of the works through analysis and research. This course forms part one of two as students read, research, and respond to texts spanning the beginnings of the English language (the Anglo-Saxon Period) up through the Renaissance and Restoration Periods. By the end of the course, students should be able to critically discuss and interpret literary works within their original contexts as well as from our contemporary perspective.
