Advisory: Essay-writing skills and eligibility to enroll in a transfer-level English Composition course. <br> <br> This course is a survey of the historical development and contributions of African Americans in the United States. Topics include African civilizations, the African slave trade and Diaspora, the development of African American culture, colonial and Antebellum slavery, Emancipation and Reconstruction, Jim Crow, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movements, African Americans at war, 21th Century struggles for racial justice, and the concepts of race, ethnicity, and equality. This course may be offered in a distance education format.
