Limitation on Enrollment: Valid and current EMT Basic or higher certification/card <br> Limitation on Enrollment: A valid CPAT card within the last 12 months <br> Limitation on Enrollment: Submit proof of a drug screening and a through a Shasta College approved vendor within the last 6 months. Shasta College personnel must review and approve test results prior to registering for FIRS 398 <br> Limitation on Enrollment: FIRS 70 Fire Protection Organization (Or equivalent from another institution) <br> Limitation on Enrollment: FIRS 79 Fundamentals of Personal Fire Safety (Or equivalent from another institution) <br> Limitation on Enrollment: Students wishing to attend the fire academy (FIRS 104) will need to have attended the FIRS 398 class immediately preceding the fire academy to ensure they have all required materials and uniforms on the first day of the fire academy. <br> Note 1: Fire Academy pre-registration checklist may be picked up at the Fire Technology office. <br> Note 2: Students may take FAID 75 or FAID 375 in preparation for the National Registry of EMT's Exam, but students must hold the valid and current EMT Basic or higher certification/card prior to registering for FIRS 398. <br> Note 3: The California State Fire Marshal's Office requires that all Firefighter 1 and 2 summative tests, and the overall course, be completed with a minimum score of 80% (a grade of B or higher). Any student who does not meet this standard will not be allowed to take the International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the International Accreditation of Fire Service Organizations (Pro Board) certification testing for Fire Fighter 1 and Fire Fighter 2, provided by the Office of the State Fire Marshal - State Fire Training. <br> Note 4: This course meets five days a week with occasional night classes, and additional weekend days as required. Preset/scheduled dates and times may be shifted as needed to accommodate facility usage, equipment demands, weather, skills development needs and instructor availability. When dates and times are shifted, the total amount of required class time will not differ from those hours as listed on the first class handout. <br> <br> This course provides the skills and knowledge needed for the entry-level professional fire fighter to perform their duties safely, effectively, and competently. The curriculum is based on the current edition of NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, the current edition of NFPA 1051 Standard for Wildland Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, and the current edition of NFPA 472 Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents. The overarching themes of the California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Fire Fighter 1 and 2 curriculum are: general knowledge germane to the profession, fire department communications, fireground operations, rescue operations, preparedness and maintenance, wildland suppression activities, flammable liquids and gas fire fighting, and hazardous materials/WMD. This academy is an Accredited Regional Training Program approved by the California State Board of Fire Services. Final certification as an IFSAC/Pro Board certified Fire Fighter 1 is achieved upon successful completion of the California Office of the State Fire Marshal's manipulative and cognitive testing for Fire Fighter 1. Certification as an OSFM Fire Fighter 2 is achieved upon successful completion of the California Office of the State Fire Marshal's manipulative and cognitive testing for Fire Fighter 2, and is verified by the Office of the State Fire Marshal after the student completes the Academy and works as a volunteer Fire Fighter for one year or a full-time paid Fire Fighter for six months. Students successfully completing this course will receive numerous standalone certificates in structure and wildland fire suppression; Auto Extrication, Confined Space Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations (Pro Board), and others.
