Catalog description
This course examines principles and practices that support the growth and learning of school-age children (ages 5-12) in community and expanded learning environments, aligned with the PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Credential pathway. Emphasis is placed on designing and evaluating developmentally appropriate curriculum that promotes cognitive, physical, social-emotional, and creative development. Students will explore culturally responsive strategies, guidance approaches, and integration of play, enrichment, and academics. Focus areas include literacy, mathematics, and science, with a focus on cultivating curiosity, developing problem-solving skills, and making real-world connections. Through observation, curriculum planning, and hands-on activities, students will create inclusive, safe, and equitable environments that engage families and support diverse learners. This course may be offered in a distance education format.
