Catalog description
This course is the second in a two-course series designed to prepare students for the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) exam, and the course is the second of a four-course series designed to prepare students for the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) exam. CCNA Routing and Switching: Routing and Switching Essentials (RSE) covers the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in a small network. Students learn how to configure a router and a switch for basic functionality. This course is offered by Shasta College as the Cisco Regional Networking Academy in the area. Instructional materials developed by Cisco Systems are utilized for the course. The course prepares students for jobs as network technicians. It also helps students develop additional skills required for computer technicians and help desk technicians. It provides a basic overview of routing and remote access, addressing, and security. It familiarizes students with servers that provide email services, Web space, and authenticated access. Students learn soft skills required for help desk and customer service positions. Network monitoring and basic troubleshooting skills are taught in context. This course may be offered in a distance education format.
