Advisory: Essay-writing skills and eligibility to enroll in a transfer-level English Composition course. <br> <br> In this course, students examine human origins, evolution, and variation with a focus on the adaptations of humans and other primates. Biological evolution and scientific methods are foundations for the course. <br> This course also includes an introduction to the history of evolutionary thought, basic human genetics, and molecular biology, as well as the anatomy, ecology, and behavior of nonhuman primates. It will also cover the evolution of our lineage as reflected in the hominin fossil record, as well as the ethical responsibility to balance scientific inquiry with respect for human subjects, cultural sensitivity, and animal welfare. This course may be offered in a distance education format.
