Disability Studies in Social Work

Catalog description

This course provides an overview of disability studies through a social work lens by introducing historical, political, economic, social, and cultural aspects of disability. This course will focus specifically on the social and cultural context of disability including how disability is defined and understood at micro and macro levels. Topics include history of the disability rights movement, federal and state legislation, legal and ethical issues, services and supports, the political economy of disability, disability culture, advocacy, and representation.
