In this course we will investigate key cognitive processes that have implications for the design of data visualizations, including perception, attention, working memory, long-term memory, reasoning, and decision-making. Students will be challenged to apply the basic research findings of cognitive psychology to the problem of the visual representation of data, creating their own data visualization guided by cognitive principles using the freeware R. 3 credits
