Catalog description

Like any identity marker and ideology, religion in its interactions with politics can produce a variety of outcomes. Through foundational and cutting-edge scholarship, we challenge many of the assumptions we have come to rely on, including the idea of separation of church and state begetting democracy, orthodoxy as inherently dangerous, and progress as secular. Additionally, this course will focus on helping students analytically compare and contrast how religion and politics interact.
