Modern Italian Literature I

Catalog description

A survey of major Italian authors from the 19th to 20th century to the 1930s. The course aims to explore the literary context (Romanticism, Verismo, Futurism, Ermetismo) and the historical background (Risorgimento I; Fascism, II) of influential writers such as Leopardi, Manzoni (I), Montale, Pirandello (II). The course is designed to expose students to the forms of Italian modern literary and aesthetic genres by studying relevant texts and authors. Conducted in Italian.
