Catalog description
This course covers the history of the Catholic Church from the Reformation to Vatican II and its aftermath. The Protestant movements and their theologies are presented and analyzed. The course also offers an exposition and analysis of the various reform movements within the Catholic Church culminating with the Council of Trent and its aftermath. Other topics include, but are not limited to, the Age of Discovery and missionary expansion, persecution of Catholics, the French Revolution, Vatican I, the modern Papacy, and the Church’s evolving relationship with modernity.
