This course treats films as historical sources that open windows onto the everyday lives, social anxieties, cultural concerns, identity formation, and national and international debates in various Middle Eastern and North African societies. Drawing on films from Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Israel, Palestine, and some other countries in the region, and secondary source readings, this course investigates important social and political events that have had long-lasting impact on the region and the world.
