Iran has been one of the most misunderstood countries in modern world history, and for good reason. Most people have encountered Iran primarily in the context of recent conflicts and crises, as portrayed through Western media. This course approaches Iran from the perspective of the masses, including workers, intellectuals, clerics, women, and youth, and examines how they have contested power through uprisings and revolutions in their search for freedom, dignity, and independence.
