Catalog description

This course explores the history of health and medicine in the United States, attentive to the perspectives and experiences of both practitioners and patients. Moving from the colonial era to the present, it examines changing understandings of health and illness, the social impact of epidemics and disease, the development of medical practices and institutions, policy debates and efforts address health care inequalities, and the way that illness and health have been experienced across gender, race, and class lines.
