Catalog description

This course explores the history of American travel and tourism from the birth of American tourism in the early nineteenth century through the late twentieth century. It considers how travel and tourism have influenced American social relationships, culture, development and conservation, and international relations. We will also explore the history of travel technologies such as the train, the automobile, the airplane, and the spaceship.
