Catalog description

This course explores the representation of crime in French literature and cinema beginning with its "prehistory" in the literature of the nineteenth century. We will study French detective novels and film noir as well as other forms of detective fiction including "hard-boiled fiction" ("le polar"), the "récit d'énigme" ("puzzler" or mystery) and other texts about crime. This course is conducted entirely in French.
