Catalog description
This course explores Ireland’s spectacular literary efflorescence of the 18th century. Reading a wide variety of male and female, Irish and Anglo-Irish, Catholic and Protestant authors, students will study Ireland’s brilliant literary culture and its connections with England’s oppressive regime from 1660 to the start of Romanticism. Authors may include Frances Sheridan, Jonathan Swift, Maria Edgeworth, and Oliver Goldsmith.
