Graphic Narratives

Catalog description

This course covers the origins and history of graphic narratives in illustrated periodicals and comics from the 19th century through the 1960s, then turns to the foundational “graphic novels” of the 1970s-80s to the present day, studying works by such major authors as Will Eisner, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Lynda Barry, Art Spiegelman, and Marjane Satrapi, along with the formal, aesthetic, and thematic issues central to the genre.
