This course provides an in-depth exploration of key legal issues within higher education, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of students, faculty, institutional governance, and external partners. Students will engage with foundational legal principles and contemporary cases that shape higher education policies and practices. Through case studies and applied research, students will develop the skills to analyze legal challenges and address them using effective strategies. Topics include U.S. legal systems, governance, student rights, academic freedom, and institutional liability. The course equips students with the ability to conduct basic legal research, critically examine case law, and apply legal reasoning to real-world scenarios in higher education administration. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate an understanding of relevant legal frameworks and develop practical approaches to navigating complex legal situations in higher education.
