Communication, Communications, and Catholicism

Catalog description

“Communication” is the giving and receiving process that connects individuals to one another and our many groups. It includes meaningful interpersonal contact, presence, care, community, and collaboration. “Communications” is the use of media to reach distant audiences. Within Catholicism, Jesus’ complete gift of self makes him “the perfect communicator,” and St. Paul is recognized as our first long distance mediator. Studying Jesus, Paul, the Popes, and other model communicators across history, we can helps identify Catholic principles of engagement. Catholicism’s caritas ethic challenges us to both develop healthy local relationships and to create media that serves the poor and outcast.
