Catalog description
Introductions to the molecular and cellular basis of life forms, the structures and functions of biologically important molecules, and genetics. Multiple basic laboratory techniques are practiced including solution handling and dilutions, spectrometry, biuret assay, dialysis, slide preparation and microscopy, centrifugation, chromatography. Activities provide student engagement with fundamentals such as diffusion and permeability, molecular models, enzyme function and inhibition, protein isolation and determinations of concentration, classical genetics. This course is proficiency-infused for numeracy. Lab fee $40. 2.5 hours/week
