Catalog description
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the legal principles and contract management practices essential to the construction industry. Students will explore the legal structure that governs construction projects, including key aspects of contract formation, performance obligations, and remedies for breach. The course also addresses the roles, rights, and responsibilities of contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals, with emphasis on mechanics liens, stop notices, and payment bond rights. In addition, students will examine dispute resolution strategies such as mediation, arbitration, and litigation, as well as licensing requirements, public works regulations, and methods to mitigate legal risk. Through case studies, industry examples, and legal analysis, students will gain practical skills to identify and manage potential legal challenges in real-world construction settings.
