Catalog description

Students will be introduced to the critical and interdisciplinary field of Asian American Studies. Students will engage historical, scholarly, and creative texts to understand and contextualize issues of Asian American immigration, education, racialization, exclusion, social and political activism, assimilation, community-building, and transnationalism. This course also explores how race, class, gender, sexuality, nationality, imperialism, war, culture, and memory have shaped the expansive experience of Asian Americans and ways Asian Americans negotiate and resist oppressive forces through political education, solidarity, and creativity.
