Honors Introduction to Race & Ethnicity In American History

Catalog description

Students will critically explore the phenomena of race and ethnicity in the history of the United States. Examining the socio-political realities of power, students analyze the processes by which racial stratification occur. Particular emphasis is placed on the socio-historical experiences of major, subordinate ethnic groups in America: African Americans, Latina/o Americans, Asian Americans, and Native Americans. Students critically analyze major theoretical approaches to understanding the circumstances that have shaped present race relations in America and various Ethnic Studies paradigms. This honors section will be enhanced in one or more of the following ways: 1) Students will write research papers/projects utilizing the library database 2) Individual oral presentations on a topic discussed in the course 3) Group oral presentations on a topic discussed in the course.
