Catalog description

Students study the principles of habitat and pond management for wildlife professionals. Students integrate ecological, biological, and economic concepts to design and evaluate sustainable aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Emphasis may be placed on field-based learning, including plant and fish identification, pond construction and stocking, vegetation management, riparian restoration, and fish population assessment. Students conduct field surveys, collect and analyze ecological data, and apply management strategies that balance productivity, biodiversity, and conservation ethics. Students will gain practical skills in habitat evaluation, fish sampling, vegetation control, and data-driven decision-making essential for managing aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Prerequisite: WMGT 2301 with a grade of C or better and a sophomore standing. Prerequisite: WMGT 2301 with a grade of C or better and Sophomore standing.
