Students examine the development of civil rights and civil liberties in the United States through the U.S. Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Constitution. The course emphasizes major doctrines related to freedom of expression and religion, privacy, due process, and equal protection. Students analyze landmark decisions, judicial reasoning, and the constitutional principles that govern the relationship between individuals and government. Prerequisite: 6 hours of POLS.
