Students examine contemporary patterns of government and politics in Latin America with emphasis on institutions, processes, behavior. Students study the historical, social, and economic background factors affecting the region, along with major issues of U.S.-Latin American relations. For selected nations, topics may include problems of democracy, authoritarianism, and political development. Prerequisite: 6 hours of POLS.
