Foundations of Applied Mathematics.

Catalog description

This course provides a comprehensive presentation of the standard methods of applied mathematics that are used when solving problems posed in engineering and science. Topics may include finite dimensional vector spaces, function spaces, integral equations, differential operators, calculus of variations, complex variable theory, transform and spectral theory, ordinary and partial differential equations, bifurcation theory, nonlinear waves, and asymptotic expansions, and perturbation theory. Prerequisite: MATH 3376 and MATH 3377 or their equivalents.
