Catalog description

The content of the course will provide students with an introduction to the sociology of sport. This course focuses on the study of sport and the impact on society, including gender, and race. The study of sport from a socio-cultural perspective will implore students to make connections from sport and its relationship to historical and contemporary events, social and cultural structures, as well as political climate. Topics for discussion will include current sports-related controversies. This course is offered in the Spring and Summer semesters only. Prerequisite: 45 credit hours or instructor approval.
